Captivating audiences with his uniquely husky voice and tasteful piano accompaniment, Eddy Smith has been making his mark on the UK’s growing Americana scene. With his soulful melodies and infectious song writing, the singer’s stylistic delivery has been compared to the likes of Joe Cocker, JJ Grey and Marcus King to name a few.

Backed by his long-time friends, they form the multinational five-piece, Eddy Smith & The 507. Their music, engulfed by rich vocal harmonies, soulful organs and bluesy harmonicas is reminiscent of a sound from way before their time. With an irresistible blend of various Americana styles, such as Blues, Folk, Country and Rock, the quintet take a leaf from the books of Nathaniel Rateliff, The Band, The Eagles and countless other pioneers of their Genres.

Following their performance at The Isle of Wight Festival 2019, the band released their debut album, and received rave reviews after selling out their launch party in London. With both national and international radio play, their songs can be heard over the airwaves across the globe.

Jimmie Allen burst onto the country music scene in 2018 with his debut album, Mercury Lane, and the hit singles ‘Best Shot’ and ‘Make Me Want To’, but he’d put a lot of hard work into the craft before success came knocking on his door. 

Allen moved to Nashville in 2007 and even auditioned to be on America’s Got Talent and American Idol, but neither led to the kind of stage time – and visibility – that he’d hoped for.  

Allen could have given up, but he kept pushing, performing around Nashville until he landed a deal with the Broken Bow Records imprint Stony Creek in 2017. He released his debut EP with the label shortly thereafter. 

It would take one more year and Allen’s official debut single ‘Best Shot’ before he started garnering major attention. The track landed at no. 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, making Allen the first black artist to achieve that top spot with his debut song.

Allen followed Mercury Lane with another EP, Bettie James, in 2020. In 2021, he became the first black solo artist to win the ACM Award for New Male Artist of the Year.

With a voice as distinctive as a fine, aged whiskey, Johnny Cash seemed destined to be a singer.

While serving in the military in the 1950s, Cash began writing his own songs. He moved to Memphis to pursue music full-time once he was released, and it was in that city where he auditioned for legendary producer Sam Phillips, who signed Cash to Sun Records in 1955.

He quickly rose to popularity as a country and western artist in the late 1950s, becoming the top recording artist in the genre. But his struggles with drug addiction interfered with that early career success.

After completing treatment for his addiction, Cash released the now-legendary album At Folsom Prison in 1968. It captured his wry sense of humor and magnetic stage presence, as Cash performed in front of 2,000 inmates at California’s Fulsom Prison. 

Based on the success of the album, Cash went on to host his own variety show The Johnny Cash Show between 1969 and 1971. 

Despite a quieter mid-career release slump, Cash received critical acclaim from two major institutions: He was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1980 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.

He began a steady output of releases toward the end of his life, including the series American, which began with American Recordings in 1994 and included five total LPs. The posthumous album American V: A Hundred Highways came out in 2006. 

The winner of multiple honors, including 13 Grammys and the Grammy’s prestigious lifetime achievement award, Cash’s legend survives beyond the many trophies he collected. He left his mark on country and western music, transforming the genre with his renowned voice and songwriting.

The musical partnership between Scott and Seth Avett started long before their 2002 debut album Country Was. The brothers grew up playing music with their family, including a more professional attempt when Seth joined Scott and their sister Margo’s college band Nemo. 

But ultimately it was Scott and Seth’s roots-infused harmonies and their genre-blending sound that has stood the test of time. They just needed one more musician to round them out. The pair met upright bassist Bob Crawford around 2001 and began performing together. From there, the Avett Brothers was set. 

Combining numerous roots genres, including bluegrass, folk, and even honkytonk, their music showcases an earnest and intimate lyricism, which has earned them Americana Music Awards for Duo/Group of the Year and Grammy nominations along the way.

Since their debut, the Avett Brothers have continued to release a steady churn of beloved and best-selling albums, including 2007’s Emotionalism, 2009’s I and Love and You and 2012’s The Carpenter — the latter two of which were produced by Rick Rubin. 

In 2017, they released a documentary titled May It Last: Portrait of the Avett Brothers, which took viewers behind the scenes of their 2016 album True Sadness.
